Today I turn over the Chair of the WWROF to John Dorr, K1AR. I will remain involved with WWROF as a Director,
but my responsibility as President of WRTC2014, Inc. will be my primary focus for the next few years.
Looking back over the past year, I think we accomplished a lot of what we set out to do. The founders thought there was a need for an organization like this, focused on the operating skills of amateur radio using on-air competitions to test those skills. We pursued a few relatively small programs, and met the goals. We have expanded our international scope with the addition of two new Directors, and have been recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit organization.
It’s been interesting over the past year to hear people identify issues in the contesting community and suggest that “this is something the WWROF should do”. And there is a long list of possible projects; some are simple, like hosting contest records, while others are more complex, such as harmonizing rules among the many contests and their sponsors.
The next year will be interesting for WWROF…we need to set priorities for the programs we will pursue, and this will be driven by the contest community. And of course, some of these projects will require significant resources, both human and financial.
We enter 2011 with a solid organizational structure. Through the generosity of many contributors (including all of the Directors), we raised enough money to cover our organizational startup costs, fund a few projects, and are in a position to cover the costs of programs already committed for 2011.
2010 was a very good year. I hope 2011 will be even better.
73 to everyone,
Doug K1DG
