WWROF Assumes Administration of Cabrillo Standard

I’m pleased to announce some fantastic news for contesters everywhere. In another example of WWROF’s continued mission to provide support and oversight for some of contesting’s most valued assets, the World Wide Radio Operators Foundation is pleased to announce that it is has assumed ownership and control of the widely adopted Cabrillo Log Specification created by Trey Garlough, N5KO.

The Cabrillo Specification was originally developed to provide a consistent method for creating data formats that sponsors could use in the adjudication of contest logs. Contest organizers including CQ, ARRL and DARC quickly supported the idea. More importantly and key to its viability, leading contest logging program authors such as K1EA, N6TR, K8CC, W5XD, EI5DI and others also embraced the concept.

Since its earliest days, the Cabrillo Specification has been the recognized gold standard for contest logs and has revolutionized the contesting world. Looking ahead and acting on behalf of WWROF, Randy Thompson, K5ZD, has agreed to administer the standard on behalf of the contesting community.

“The availability of a common log data standard such as Cabrillo is an invaluable tool to contest administrators,” said Randy Thompson, WWROF Director. “I look forward to working with the contest community and logging program authors to ensure future needs are met for all contests that utilize the standard.”

The official specification for the Cabrillo standard and other information is now available el WWROF Web site. A review process for change requests will be announced at a later date.
